Ce GAGG scintillator crystal is a high light yield garnet scintillator replacing NaI Tl in portable gamma spectrometers. This Ce GAGG scintillator emits at 520 nm with 46000 photons per MeV light yield and density of 6.63 g per cm3. The GAGG scintillator is non hygroscopic so it needs no sealed package and survives field environments. Energy resolution reaches 4.5 percent at 662 keV with PMT coupling. This cerium doped GAGG scintillator is widely used in radionuclide identification well counters SPECT border inspection and well logging. Delivered as polished cuboid with TiO2 reflective coating.
Ce:GAGG (Ce:Gd₃Al₂Ga₃O₁₂) is a cubic garnet scintillator developed as a rugged, non-hygroscopic alternative to NaI(Tl) and CsI(Tl). With a light yield reaching 46,000 photons per MeV — roughly twice that of NaI(Tl) — and an emission peak at 520 nm ideally matched to bialkali PMTs and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs), it delivers energy resolution close to 4.5% at 662 keV under optimized coupling. Unlike alkali halides, Ce:GAGG requires no hermetic encapsulation, survives temperature cycling and moisture exposure, and is mechanically tough enough for field instrumentation.
